MIBGAS reaches 6.25% of the Spanish natural gas demand in October (press release).

MIBGAS, the Organized Gas Market Operator, has traded 6.25% of the Spanish natural gas demand in October, the highest value registered since the start of operations in December 2015.

Market activity has reached these volumes due mainly to the significant increase in gas demand (8.1% in year-on-year values), with a leading role of natural gas for electricity generation and gas imports from European markets, at maximum values in recent years. In addition, 3.71% of the Spanish demand in 2017 has been traded on the MIBGAS Platform, with October being the month of greatest share (6.25%), followed by July (4.15%) and May (4.01%).

Furthermore, the activity of MIBGAS increased significantly -currently 63 participants- and its platform registered, in October, an average of 120 daily transactions, from 50 registered on the same month previous year. The average daily traded volume achieved 60 GWh, 40% higher than the volume in October 2016.

Another figure that highlights the boost in the activity of the Organized Gas Market is the new trading record of free negotiation registered on October 11th (a total of 114,210 MWh), considering as free negotiation all the transactions that take place on the Market except Regulated Gas.
