MIBGAS trades more than 154 TWh in the first nine months of 2026
7/10/2026
The trading volume on MIBGAS in the first nine months of this year was 154.3 TWh, 14.7% higher than that recorded in the same period in 2025. Likewise, September 2026, with 21.3 TWh traded, becomes the month with the second-highest transaction volume in its entire history.
Liquidity at MIBGAS is experiencing steady and balanced growth, even following the change to the funding model, which involved the introduction of fees for its agents last March for services provided as a market operator in the Spanish virtual balancing point (PVB). In this context, it is important to highlight the voluntary nature of the use of MIBGAS for agents in the gas system.
Likewise, this continuous upward growth in trading also represents a larger share in relation to the percentage of volume traded on national demand, whose average in these first nine months is 64%, with this percentage standing at 82.1% in September.
MIBGAS began implementing a system of fees for the market services made available to its agents in March of this year, thereby becoming self-financing. This change has strengthened its position in the Iberian market, consolidating its growth, all thanks to the trust and support shown by its more than 300 agents who see MIBGAS as the most liquid, reliable and robust Iberian trading platform for buying and selling natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) products with physical delivery in the Iberian Peninsula, as well as for registering bilateral (OTC) transactions.
